How to Choose a Security Company in Johannesburg

PSIRA registration is the starting point, not the whole story. Here is what to verify before you sign a guarding contract in Johannesburg.

Every private security service provider operating in South Africa must be registered with the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA), and so must every officer deployed to your site. Ask for the company registration number and verify it directly with PSIRA. Genko Security Services is registered under PSIRA number 5133984 and CIPC number 2014/222772/07.

Registration alone does not predict service quality. The difference between a contract that works and one that does not is usually supervision: how often a supervisor physically visits the post, whether visits are recorded, and who you phone at two in the morning. Ask for the supervision schedule in writing and the name of the manager accountable for your contract.

Ask how incidents reach you. A credible provider produces a written occurrence record per shift and escalates serious incidents the same day. If a company cannot show you a sample report, you will not get one after you sign.

Insist on a site risk assessment before pricing. A quote produced without a site visit is a guess about how many officers you need, and it is usually a guess that favours the seller. The assessment should state the threats, the vulnerabilities and why the recommended posts and patrol pattern address them.

Finally, read the contract terms on escalation, replacement of unsuitable officers, notice periods and what happens to equipment on termination. A professional provider will happily walk you through each clause.
